Emi

Emi is #05 of the 2024 Happy Scrappy Cat Project. She is going to be hosted as a free crochet along in the Hateruma Handmade Community Facebook group. Starting on March 1st, 2024 and continuing until a date to be determined, Emi’s pattern will be available to view and use FREE right here on this page. Scroll down.

Emi is about 6″ to the top of her head in a seated position when worked in #4 medium worsted weight acrylic. Standing she measures a whopping 9.5″ from toes to tips of ears. She’s adorably sized to be the perfect hand-held friend.

Emi is also available to purchase as an ad-free PDF at anytime at Ravelry.

I used less than 60g skein of the main color #4 medium worsted weight acrylic yarn and a 3.0 mm hook for all cats. Since this is a scrap project, I do not have yarn names or exact amounts to list. However, most of my yarn was purchased at Daiso in Japan.

Gauge is not important but make sure all of your yarn is the same weight.

Stitches used in American terminology:

MR – magic ring
sc – single crochet
ch – chain
inc – increase (by creating 2 sc stitches together into the same space)
dec –decrease (by joining 2 sc stitches together with a single stitch)
sl st – slip stitch
hdc – half double crochet
DC – double crochet
FO – finish off
FLO – front loop only
BLO – back loop only

Pattern is worked in the round and stuff as you go unless otherwise noted.
Close up photos are at the end of pattern to assist in assembly.

Assembly
Use the following photos to find exact placement for pieces.

After sewing the head to the body, I sewed my arms onto the body at round 23, centered on both sides. The legs are sewn on starting between rounds 5 and 6 at the beginning of the body with one full stitch between them. The tail is sewn in the same round as the legs, centered in the back. The top of the eyes will fall at about round 12 of the head, with about 10 stitches between them. Add a white highlight if you like. The ears are positioned starting between rounds 3 and 4 on the top of the head set slightly toward the back, lining up with the back edge of the arm as seen from the side. Embroider a suitable nose according to the picture example or according to your own tastes. Sew the buttons centered on the body between round 10 and 15, and also between round 17 and 22.

Congratulations! You have completed a cat!
