Hebereke

If you are into retro games, you might know Hebereke. Apparently the original game was released by Sunsoft in Japan in 1991. It was rereleased as Hebereke 2 in 2024. I don’t know anything about it but my oldest son requested one, so of course I had to oblige.

Like usual, I wrote down every stitch I did round by round. I did not take step by step pictures tough. I usually do that when I make a second one to make sure my pattern is correct and I get all the necessary photos for a detailed pattern release. But because Hebereke is a licensed character and this is a one-off fan art item, I do not intend to ever make a second one. But just in case you would like your own Hebereke and have a hard time finding an officially licensed plush to buy, I’m going to share the pattern for free to view and use here.

I used #4 medium worsted weight acrylic yarn. I used a 3.0 mm hook. I used small plastic eyes with no safety backs like are used for needle felting toys.

Hebereke measures 6” (15.25 cm) tall.

Gauge is not important but make sure you use the appropriate hook for the yarn.

Stitches used in American terminology:

MR – magic ring
sc – single crochet
inc – increase (by creating 2 sc stitches together into the same space)
dec –decrease (by joining 2 sc stitches together with a single stitch)
st – stitch
FO – finish off
[…] – repeat sequence between brackets indicated number of times

*The body is worked in the round and stuff as you go.*

Assembly:
I started assembly with the feet first. They will be at the bottom of the front area of the body, with toes pointing slightly outward. Sew an oval shape where the foot comes into contact with the body to secure the foot to the body. It is easiest to sew the pompom onto the top of the hat before attaching the hat to the head. The hat will be tipped slightly to the back like seen in the pictures. Sew around the edge of the hat to secure to the head. Attach the beak and eyes according to the placement you prefer. The wings will be sewn around the open edge to attach to the body according to the placement in the photos.

*Typically, my patterns have very detailed step by step crochet and assembly photos. However, this is a one off fan art item my son requested and I have no intention of ever making another one. But since I always write down everything I make as I go out of habit, I wanted to share that effort with anyone else that is wanting their own Hebereke.*
