Oggy Oggy

A year ago my family discovered Oggy Oggy. We had been big fans of Oggy and the Cockroaches so we were totally enamored with the new, adorable, little, chibi version of our family favorite. Of course, one of the first questions was, “Mama, can you make us one?” I wanted to just buy an official plush but I haven’t been able to find any except for horribly over priced reseller ones or bootlegs from China. We just wanted our own little blue kitten.

Well, I had other things going on and it would be forgotten for weeks at a time. I would check every so often to see if anyone had designed a pattern yet, so I could just make one quickly for my family and not have to actually put any thought into it.

I waited.

And waited.

I finally got tired of waiting and made my own.
Welcome to the family, Oggy Oggy!

I’m happy to share the pattern free to view and use here or you can purchase an ad free PDF on Ravelry for a small fee to help fund this website and help make it possible to continue designing patterns to share.

As is the case for most of my makes, I used #4 medium worsted weight acrylic yarn and a 3.0mm hook. Gauge does not matter at all for this piece.

Four colors of yarn were used; 116g of blue, 6g of red, 16g of white, and 5g of black.

A small amount of black felt and stuffing is also needed.

The pattern is written in US terms and is worked in continuous rounds unless otherwise stated.

There’s not a lot more to talk about so let’s dive in!

Stitches used in American terminology: MR – magic ring
sc – single crochet
ch – chain
inc – increase (by creating 2 sc stitches together into the same space)
dec –decrease (by joining 2 sc stitches together with a single stitch)
sl st – slip stitch
[…] – repeat what is inside “x” times
FO – finish off
BLO – back loop only

Assembly:

Stuff anything still needing stuffing. Sew the head to the neck portion of the body. Join a piece of white yarn to the feet to sew them onto the bottom of the body. Position the tail so that it helps support the body similar to a tripod. Sew the nose approximately center on the face. Sew the ears to the top of the head. Sew 2 whiskers on each side of the head.

Cut eyes and a mouth out of a scrap of black felt and either sew, glue, or felt them in place (I did needle felting).
