When I became a mom in my late 30’s I went through a very specific and very drawn out type nesting phase. I wanted to make the soft baby toys that would surround my son and fill his early childhood with handmade love from Mama. I didn’t know how to crochet at the time so I needed to rely on my sewing skills.
I love the pretty little floral prints you can get in cotton fabric. I like how washable it is and how it doesn’t get pill-y or ratty looking. I also love how vintage and country fresh it looks. I wanted to design a dimensional toy that would be interesting to grip in a tiny hand with a few points that might tempt a drooly little mouth to chew on them. So I sat down with pencil and paper one day while my sweet baby was napping and drafted out the pattern for Scottie Dog.

This picture was taken after months of play when I finally decided to make a PDF of the pattern. It was my very first 100% all mine toy design and I’m still very nostalgic and proud of it.
The pattern has a very detailed step-by-step tutorial just jam packed with photos to walk you through each and every part so you can get the same results that you see here.
I haven’t gotten around to it yet, but I have been toying with the idea of enlarging the pattern and making a weighted one to use as a doorstop. Wouldn’t that be just the cutest?
