Sweet Maggie – crochet pattern

The pattern has been tested and all corrections for clarity have been made.

In one of the crochet groups I’m in, there was a beginner crocheter asking for some guidance to design a character doll to go along with her children’s book authoring debut. Since I’m such a supporter of children’s literacy and a total lover of soft toys, I volunteered to help her make her vision a reality.

This was only the second doll I have designed. I tend to feel more comfortable with non-humanoid things. But it turned out to be such a fun and rewarding endeavor.

The book by Colleen Morrison is available on Amazon. She’s already working on a second book at the time of this posting and has plans to make an entire series starring Maggie Magnolia.

I use US terminology and medium weight yarn with a 3.0 mm hook. But as usual, just use whatever you are most comfortable with.

Abbreviations used:
MR – magic ring
st – stitch
sc – single crochet

Assembly

Sew the arms to the top row of the dress where it meets the neck color.

Sew the legs on at the front with no more than a couple of stitches between them at around row 5.

Embroider face details before sewing on the wig so you can knot the threads securely at the top or back of head and hide the tails.

Position wig tipped toward back of head and sew around perimeter.
