Unicorns. Who doesn’t love them? There’s something magical about these mythical beasts that just make us feel good. Don’t you agree?
When I first designed my Twinkle Bunny Lovey my main focus was to get as much fabric on there as possible. Those big ears were ideal. When thinking about what the next lovey would be, I immediately thought of those little preemie octopuses and their curly tentacles. I wanted to use those sensory bits for the second lovey. A unicorn definitely lends itself to having tons of those curls from head to tail!
I used a medium weight #4 worsted yarn and a 3.0 mm hook. Of course, gauge isn’t really important on this project as loveys can have some variation in size.
In the pattern, I use images with different colored pins inserted and written instructions to make sure you get all your placements the same as my prototype.
In the above image I laid out the path you will use to crochet the mane right onto the head. Your hook starts by going in where the green pin is and exits at the red pin just to the left where you draw up your yarn and pull through to begin your chain and work back down with single crochets until you meet the scalp, turn the head so you can insert into the adjacent white pin and exit out the next red pin, working back and forth in a ladder pattern. Don’t worry, I tell you just how many chains and single crochets to do too.
You might have also noticed some blue speckling in the tan mane. I had some doilie cotton laying around that just happened to be the same color as the blue I used for the body. Unfortunately, I ran out and the store hasn’t gotten any more in as of writing this, so the blue rattle only has 6 curls in the mane while the others have 12 curls.
There are tons of pictures to walk you through the fabric sewing process too! I used a regular woven cotton fabric but you could really use anything you feel comfortable working with.
There is also a bonus rattle pattern included! 2 styles are included. The first one is a ring style pattern but I thought that might be too challenging to add fabric to so I added a straight handle option too.
Not sure about sewing? No problem! This pattern works out wonderfully with just a single thickness of the crocheted body or you can double it up for a bit more substance like I did on the white and pastel sample.
Hello I bought your twinkle unicorn pattern you did not give how to attached the head ? Thank you for your time

So sorry about that! I was so focused on making sure the difficult things were all covered that I forgot that. At around row 15 of the head I sew straight across for a total of 5 to 7 stitches (depending on how floppy it tries to be) joining it to the top edge of the body. For the rattle it’s just a matter of finding center on both parts. It might change by a row or 2 each time I do one depending on how cooperative the stitches line up for me.
Thank you for your purchase!
