Bell Pepper – パプリカ

I actually designed this little bell pepper to be the base of a gag gift for my 6 year old. The 2020 Olympics will be held in Tokyo and one of the main songs promoting it is called Papurika (パプリカ) Olympics. Yep, bell pepper Olympics. It’s a cute song but even after my son, Kenji, tried to explain it to me I still don’t get it.

HERE is a link to one of the videos with the song.

Even though it’s a gag, he says he wants to hang it from his randoseru (ランドセル) as a little decoration.

There’s nothing terribly special about the design but I did write it down just in case it turned out decent and I wanted to make more of these. I did not, however, take any pictures as I went. You’ll just have to rely on the written pattern, sorry.

As usual, this is written in US terms and I used #4 medium worsted weight yarn and my trusty 3.0 mm hook.

Normally you would sew through stitches down the side starting from the top and work your way in a straight line to the bottom. However, I was lazy (gag gift, remember?) so I just left my yarn loose on the surface. Then insert the needle into the bottom center and thread up to the top center. Repeat directly across from what you just did so you now have what looks like a pepper split in 2 segments. Repeat 2 more times until your pepper has 4 equal segments. You can knot your end at the top because the knot will be covered by the stem piece.
